Streets of Rage 4

Streets of Rage 4 is a fine game that's best suited for couch co-op with friendly fire turned off, but $25 is a bit unreasonable considering Double Dragon 4 came out for $7 and everyone shat on it.

So you have revamped graphics and some new characters, but it plays mostly like the old SoR titles. There is a new risk / reward mechanic where using special moves depletes your health and can be recovered by following up with some hits. The soundtrack combines old and new tunes which is probably the biggest saving grace of the whole experience. You can grind out points to unlock classic pixelated characters but it's a bit too samey. Top it off with some boss rush and a battle mode and you got maybe a $10 game here at best.

Double Dragon IV got review bombed to hell, but the cool thing about that game was you were able to play as ALL of the enemy characters. Me and my woman poured so much time into DD4 because it was fun running through the story mode as different doods. In SoR4, you can swap characters between each level but I never felt engaged in learning the nuances of combat because there aren't any. In fact, I can pretty much tell right away Blaze is the best fighter. If you got a friend IRL to play with and money to blow by all means pick up SoR4 when it goes on sale. The full asking price is rediculous.
